Controller / Accounting Manager

Our client, a growing manufacturing organization in the Metro Detroit area, is seeking an experienced Controller / Accounting Manager to oversee all accounting and financial operations. This is a hands-on leadership role responsible for managing the day-to-day accounting function, ensuring financial accuracy, and supporting overall business performance.

The ideal candidate will have experience in manufacturing accounting, job costing, inventory accounting, and ERP systems, along with the ability to work independently and drive process improvements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage all day-to-day accounting functions
  • Oversee Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable
  • Manage customer invoicing and collections
  • Process vendor payments and support cash management activities
  • Perform bank and credit card reconciliations
  • Coordinate payroll processing and related journal entries
  • Prepare and file sales tax reports
  • Prepare monthly financial statements and management reports
  • Lead month-end and year-end close processes
  • Maintain the general ledger and supporting schedules
  • Manage fixed asset accounting
  • Oversee inventory accounting and costing activities
  • Support manufacturing job costing and project cost analysis
  • Maintain customer and vendor records
  • Generate financial reports and business performance metrics
  • Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow planning
  • Coordinate audits and financial reporting requirements
  • Develop and improve accounting procedures and internal controls
  • Support cross-functional teams with financial analysis and reporting

Required Qualifications

  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
  • 5+ years of progressive accounting experience
  • Experience managing full-cycle accounting functions
  • Manufacturing accounting experience preferred
  • Strong understanding of GAAP
  • Experience working with ERP systems
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving abilities
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with manufacturing job costing
  • Experience with inventory and work-in-process (WIP) accounting
  • Experience in a manufacturing environment
  • Experience preparing monthly financial statements and financial analysis
  • Background supporting operational and production teams
